I'd like to start a list of what devices / operating systems Control currently works with. If you have an Android device running Control it would be great if you could answer the following:

    1. What is the make / model of your device?
    2. What version of Android is it running?
    3. What is the screen resolution of your device?
    4. Does Multitouch work in Control? Does it work in other apps on your device?
    5. What problems have you encountered (if any)?

    I will start.

    1. Motorola Droid
    2. 2.1
    3. 480 x 854
    4. Multitouch does not work, not sure if it works in other apps but I suspect not.
    5. No big problems besides lack of multitouch... animation of widgets is slightly laggy.

    1. Asus Transformer
    2. 3.1
    3. 1280 x 800
    4. Multitouch works great and also works in other apps
    5. No problems, animation of widgets is smooth and the app runs great on this device.

    1. HTC Wildfire
    2. 2.2.1
    3. 240x320
    4. MT does not work. I think it does for other apps - e.g. pinch-zoom in google maps works perfectly.
    5. Really sluggish/laggy performance makes me a sad panda. Maybe even worse than recent self-compiled github version, but obviously I can't measure that. Cut-off elements in some interfaces (probably due to low resolution).

Thanks Bilderbuchi. I don't expect multitouch to work in Froyo (it's not enabled in the froyo version of WebKit) but the resolution problem should be solvable. I think. I only tried it at 240x320 once in the emulator and it worked, but I changed a bunch of stuff in the last week that must have broke it.

As for the lag, this might be solvable by using an animation loop. Not sure though... in general I find that even though there's lag in the rendering on my Droid the OSC messages are actually sent pretty promptly.

    1. HTC Incredible
    2. 2.2
    3. 480 x 800
    4. No multitouch, does work in some other apps but, I assume those aren't webkit based.
    5. Works great for me so far, it looks like the graphics are drawing just 1 or 2 pixels off the top of the screen, but that doesn't make it unusable.

    Motorola Xoom Tablet

    1280x800
    yup yup
Some problems switching between apps. Control wouldn't show up in the recent task list

    1. HTC Desire HD
    2. 2.3.2
    3. 480x800
    4. No multitouch. Multi-touch works in other apps.
    5. The controls seem to wobble around when touching. I have not seen this in other apps (eg. TouchDAW, fingreplayMidi)

Widdly, when you say they wobbly, do you mean that the entire interface scrolls a little bit?

    1. Samsung Galaxy S2 GTI9100
    2. 2.3.3
    3. 480x800
    4. No multitouch. Multi-touch works in other apps.
    5. Haven't actually tested whether it sends the OSC yet. Just tried out touching buttons etc on some interfaces, which seems to run smoothly.

Any rough idea how long MIDI functionality will take? Finally having this on Android with MIDI would be amazing.

By wobbly I mean when touching a slider, the movement is sometimes a bit jerky. I doesn't always track the finger movement smoothly. It doesn't happen all the time so it could be related to some other activity happening on the phone.

    Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your great work! Law school and my internship have kept me from music, but I have some free time in the next month or so to have some fun. I also picked up a transformer (running latest 3.2, rooted and overclocked) in the meantime, so I'm happy to see an android version. The layouts I use on a regular basis seem to be fine, save for the landscape/portrait bug. How's MIDI support coming along? I could really use it right about now ;-)

    Thanks again!

    Motorola XOOM
    2. What version of Android is it running?
    3.1
    3. What is the screen resolution of your device?
    1280 x 800
    4. Does Multitouch work in Control? Does it work in other apps on your device?
partial, the first touch is tracked fine, the second touch is only tracked the first time i touch the surface, when I slide my finger those touches are NOT tracked. other apps work fine.
    5. What problems have you encountered (if any)?
the interface list is a bit funny, the delete icon is too small. sometimes the list gets confused after adding and refreshing interfaces

    great work!

Yeah, doesn't look multitouch will ever work with Gingerbread unfortunately... here's a beta gui editor that an inspired user has been working on and updating every couple of weeks:

Which version should I switch back to get multitouch ?

Just to be clear, it's multitouch in the WebKit framework that's a problem. And unfortunately you can't switch back to get it... you have to wait for ice cream sandwich to come to your phone. Hopefully since you have a nexus one that won't be too much time...

    5. Cant get the rtpmidi stuff to work on windows, but puredata receives the osc fine. most interfaces for ipads pan the interface instead of the faders, the ones for iphone works fine. all i have to complain about is the lack of presets and examples already with translators, like osc>puredata>midi, im a newbie! :D
awesome app, i bet ill have a lot of fun when i figure out how to talk with ableton by automap like LiveControl do. thanks man!

    No multi-touch..=(

Problems - Midi information is not generated when creating custom devices. I can get the template to appear on my phone, however when I send the signal to OSCulator, all of the buttons/knobs/etc work, however no associated MIDI information is recognized. When I try to manually add them to the settings in OSCulator, I don't have the option to modify parameter info. The only option that appears is OSC Routing.

I can however get midi information when using the default interfaces that are installed with that app. hmmm......!? Osculator recognizes the additional midi info, and so does Ableton! Where can I find interfaces that have midi info auto mapped?

very buggy to get VVVV stuff to work.
BTW, Ipad isn't working at all for me , won't upload any interfaces .

    Hi Charlie,

How's it coming on an Android version that would support MIDI? Thanks for all your hard work!

No multitouch in Android until ICS, or Honeycomb if you're on a tablet... sorry. Nothing I can do about it, it's a limitation of Android's WebKit implementation.

    1) Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (wifi)
    2) 3.2
    3) 1280 x 800
    4) Multitouch is working fine. I tested the MultitouchXY interface with 10 touch points and it worked. Seems that the processor was starting to get taxed at about 8 touch points. Would have tried 11 touch points but would have needed to use my nose. ;)
    5) No significant problems so far. I do notice that custom added Destinations sometimes don't appear in the list until I hit refresh when opening the app for the first session. Not sure that that is hardware related, though.

    4) Multitouch works.
    5) All of the UI is about 1/4 size, all squished into the top left corner of the screen. How can I make everything expand to fill the screen? The controls are too small to hit with fingers.

Ahhh... my first ICS user. Did you try both the options detailed here:
